The iPad Takes On the Touchpad

Posted by admin in

Recently if you have been watching the news lately, you might have noticed that HP’s Touchpad has been on a little bit of a roll. HP decided to drop the price of their Touchpad by around 75 in an effort to make it sell better. Well it worked; and now the iPad has a lot more competition.

Even just a few weeks ago the iPad’s only real competition was from two Android tablets, the XOOM and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. But, now, since HP has dropped the price of the Touchpad, Apple’s iPad is in trouble.

The Touchpad is a bit different from the other tablets on the market at the moment. The main differences is that it is running WebOS instead of Android or iOS. WebOS is HP’s operating system that they built from scratch and it runs a little differently than what most people are used to. It is also arguably more clean and prettier than what you would find on other tablets.

This overall design and attention to detail makes it very tough competitor for the iPad.

However, there is still hope for the iPad. The one main advantage that the iPad has over the Touchpad is its’ highly developed app ecosystem. The iPad has apps for anything and everything you could possibly think of. There are even children’s books and comics specifically made for the iPad. Having this developed ecosystem pretty much gives the iPad the only edge that it needed to take on the Touchpad and win successfully.

Where the Touchpad has flash, real multitasking, and a minimalistic operating system, the iPad has a mature app ecosystem and hundreds of thousands of devoted fans. It is going to be an interesting battle, but for now, the iPad is definitely winning the war of the tablets.
