| Q. |
What is the difference between custom and typical installations? |
| A. |
Choose Typical for the first time installation. The Custom option is there just in case
you need to re-install the program. Within the Custom option, you can uncheck
the DB Files option so your current animal data will not be overwritten with the empty
database files. Important note:
we strongly suggest that you back-up your horse data before any re-installation.

| Q. |
I am trying to back-up Herd Management 2000 database files. Where are those files? |
| A. |
You should back-up the whole directory which should be located at
'C:\Program Files\First Step Software\Herd Management 2000 - Horse Edition'.
The database file is 'hm2000horse.db'. You should also back-up the files 'hm2000horse.ini',
and 'hm2khorseopt.ini'. These files store the program needed configurations.
However, to conveniently back-up the most recent database files, use the "Backup/Restore" selection
from the "Maintenance" menu.

| A. |
Here are the steps to assign horses to a group:
- Open the Horse List window.
- For viewing purpose, scroll the list to the right until you see the column 'Horse Group'.
Another thing that you could do is to click and drag the 'Horse Group' column header to the
left next to the 'Name' column. This will allows you to see both horse name and horse
group at the same time.
- Now, let's assume you want to make a new group H. Enter letter H into the 'Horse Group'

check box so when the 'Assign Group' button is clicked, the horse's group is cleared before
assigning the new group.
- Highlight the horse that need to be in this new group and click the 'Assign Group'

I am trying to add a horse to a group and it says H2. Somehow, it got me confused. |

What's happening is that you are assigning your horses to two groups by assigning H2.
The rule is only 1 character can be used for a group. By assigning H2, your horse belongs

| Q. |
Why does the entry from the drop-down list within the 'Training' tab
folder not scrolling after I've entered the first few characters? |
| A. |
The look-up function of the white drop-down entry behaves different from the yellow
drop-down entry. Since you can enter text into the white drop-down entry box, you will
need to press the F4 function key to show the drop-down list. Now, you can type in the first
few characters and notice the list will scroll to the nearest match. To make the
nearest match as the current entry, just press the down-arrow key. Also, you can insert or delete a record line by pressing the ctrl-Insert or ctrl-Delete key?
These are some nice keyboard features for those users prefer to use the mouse
only when needed.
